Jolene Philo

Jolene is the author of five extensively researched resource books for the special needs community. Her most recent release, Does My Child Have PTSD? What to Do when Your Child Is Hurting from the Inside Out (2015) received a Publisher’s Weekly starred review. She connects with parents of kids with special needs at her blog,, and with her daughter co-hosts the Home Again Podcast, which explores intergenerational living. She speaks at about writing, special needs parenting, special needs ministry, and post-traumatic stress disorder around the country and internationally.

Before starting a freelance writing and speaking career in 2003, Jolene taught school for twenty-five years. Her undergraduate degree was in elementary education with a minor in learning disabilities, and she holds a Master of Science degree in effective teaching.

Jolene and her husband Hiram have two adult children and four grandchildren. They live in Polk City, Iowa, where they, along with their daughter and her family, launched a grand experiment in multi-generational living. When she’s not writing, Jolene enjoys walking, cooking, reading, and traveling.
