Kari Patterson

Kari Patterson weaves words together with children on her lap and Legos on the floor. She juggles the hats of pastor’s wife, church-planter, homeschool mom, conference and retreat speaker, women’s Bible study teacher, writer, mentor, counselor, friend, daughter—occasionally dropping them all on her crumb-covered floor. (It’s okay, really.)

In a dust-covered box somewhere, Patterson has a bachelor’s degree in English from Oregon State University and a master’s degree in pastoral studies with an emphasis in women’s ministry from Multnomah Biblical Seminary. She and her husband planted and now pastor RENEW Church, a missional community in South Portland. She has been speaking at women’s events for eight years, now doing dozens of events each year, reaching thousands of women.

Patterson writes all her own retreat curriculum and teaches Bible study weekly in her church. She has sold nearly 40,000 copies of her five e-books, Plenty: 31 Sips of Joy for Moms Everywhere; Let in Light: His Truth Every Morning for 31 Days; Faithfully Frugal; Friendship: A Gift to Give; and I Will Look Up. She also has co-authored three complete Bible studies for her church: Away From Home: A Journey Through 1 Peter, Faith That Works: Wisdom from the Book of James, and Standing Fast in Freedom: The Gospel in the Book of Galatians.

For nearly eight years Patterson has been writing for her blog, Sacred Mundane, with thousands of readers from 102 countries. She’s had several posts go “viral,” reaching hundreds of thousands of readers. Her writings also appear on the popular blogs (in)courage (a division of Dayspring), Simple Homeschool, Grace Covers Me (Christine Hoover), Oregon Women’s Report, and Frugal Living NW.

Patterson’s greatest qualification for writing is that she lives it. With children underfoot and in her arms, she bows daily to mundane tasks and embraces this dirty, dusty, sacred life, letting her days transform her life. Her unique mix of theological training, ministry experience, and motherhood makes Patterson just the person to write about the “sacred mundane” for Christian women.
