Janae Dueck

Janae Dueck is a children’s book author and illustrator who is fueled by her creativity, wild imagination, and relentless faith. She resides in San Jose, California, where she is completing a degree in Child and Adolescent Development at San Jose State University.

At age twenty, Janae wrote and illustrated her first children’s picture book, To My Falling Leaves: The Story of Autumn. From the perspective of a tree, the story of Autumn touches on “seasons of life” and how to find encouragement in times of loss, grief, and difficulty. Janae has had the privilege of sharing this beloved story, and her journey as a young author, with public and private schools throughout the Bay Area.

Janae loves inspiring little artists. In 2016, she developed and implemented a “Disney-themed” kid’s summer camp curriculum called Art For My Heart. Janae had the privilege of guiding 23 students from local schools through six extensive art projects over the course of two months. To this day, her students say it was the best summer camp yet!

In the winter of 2017, Janae was also an intern at Art With Heart—a non-profit in Seattle, Washington—where she helped develop a curriculum for the popular therapeutic book Magnificent Marvelous Me!. The curriculum consists of over 60 hands-on art activities that further exemplify the material found in the book. This curriculum is planned for publishing in the coming year, and will be used by clinical therapists, counselors, teachers, and other non-profits.

Janae plans to attend graduate school to receive her Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) license with a concentration in art therapy. Her passion is incorporating art expression into mental health; she believes that the creative process is a powerful way to emotional healing.
